Rincón de La Vieja National Park: A 40-minute drive north-east of Liberia is the Rincón de La Vieja National Park. A vivid rainforest with a volcanic landscape, you can explore the Rincón on foot, by bike or on horseback. A popular hike is to La Cangrejo Waterfall, where you can swim in the deep blue pool. The park also has hot springs where you can rest aching limbs.
Tamarindo: Tamarindo is just under a 90 minute drive from Liberia. Famous for its blazing sunsets, surfing opportunities and parties, this is the place to come for an exciting day out. One of Costa Rica’s top destinations, in Tamarindo you can fish, scuba dive, learn to surf, bike ride on the beach or relax with a cocktail.
Santa Rosa National Park: Want to go off the beaten track? Then make your way to Santa Rosa National Park — Costa Rica’s first protected wilderness. Comprised of mangrove swamps, dry tropical forests and white-sandy beaches, this natural wonder is a haven for campers, hikers and history buffs (this area was the centre of an attempted invasion by Nicaragua in 1955). The park is only 42 kilometres north-west of Liberia.
