Bærums Verk: Just over 20 kilometres from Oslo is the village of Bærums Verk. Located on the banks of the River Lomma, this picturesque Nordic settlement was once the site of an iron mine and foundry. The latter is now a popular shopping centre, which includes workshops and galleries. The sculpture park is not to be missed, and you can also enjoy walks by the tumbling glacial-fed river.
Østmarka Wilderness Area: Østmarka Wilderness Area is only a 20-minute drive from Oslo city centre. Made up of a vast pine forest, this nature reserve lets you sample the dramatic Nordic wilderness without going too far from town. In winter, there are marked cross-country ski trails (some of which a lit in the evenings). In the summer, there are a number of hiking and biking trails, as well as lakes to swim in.
Oslo Winter Park & Oslo Summer Park: Snow is transformative stuff and that is the only difference between Oslo Winter Park and Oslo Summer Park — as they are the same place. Located only 25 minutes from the city centre in Tryvann, this activity centre offers ski and snowboarding in the winter and treetop climbing, hiking and downhill mountain biking in the summer.
