Aqualand Algarve: Just a 40-minute drive from Faro, Aqualand Algarve is the perfect place for a family day out. The water park has attractions to suit all ages — including two areas for young children and exhilarating slides for thrill-seekers. If you want to relax, head to the two lazy rivers, the wave pool or the semi-Olympic swimming pool. Aqualand Algarve is open from June to September.
Zoomarine Algarve: Another family-friendly attraction, Zoomarine Algarve (just half an hour from Faro) is a fun and educational day out. Be fascinated by the dolphin, sea lion, parrot and birds of prey shows, then explore the park’s other attractions — which include an aquarium, an ‘Americas’ walk-through habitat and an interactive dinosaur exhibition. Away from the animals, Zoomarine also boasts a small water park, a beach and a handful of fairground rides. The park plays an active role in marine life conservation and rehabilitation, so you can be sure the animals are well looked after.
Lagos: The municipality of Lagos is home to some of the best beaches on the Algarve, so it’s a great place to head if you want to relax and soak up the sun on some of the finest stretches of sand in the region.
