Lake Garda: An hour’s drive from Verona is Lake Garda — Italy’s largest lake. Popular with the rich and famous, this lake has long been a glamorous destination, and this is reflected in the fine restaurants, bars and houses that line its shores. Lake Garda is surrounded by three regions: Lombardy, Trentino Alto-Adige and the Veneto. Each region offers something different, from vineyard-hopping to the south of the lake and windsurfing to the North.
Treviso and the Strada del Vino: The Treviso area is famous for Prosecco. Unlike Champagne, which refers to a region, Prosecco is the name of the grape that is grown in the rolling terraced hills of Treviso. Drive the Strada del Vino and enjoy some delicious Italian food washed down with a glass of bubbly in picturesque towns and villages. Just remember not to drink and drive.
Venice: Located over an hour and twenty minutes east of Verona is Venice — the ‘City of Water’. Famous for its canals, splendid architecture and gondolas, Venice is not to be missed. You can’t drive into Venice itself, but you can park at Piazzale Roma. Get a bird’s-eye view from the Campanile and take a trip down the Grand Canal. Also, don’t miss St Mark’s Basilica.
