Pittulongu Beach: Just 8km from Olbia, Pittulongu Beach is an area made up of four separate beaches — the largest being 800 metres long. Each stretch of sand boasts stunning views over towards Tavolara Island, and some of the activities on offer include snorkelling, surfing and scuba diving.
Alghero: Get up early and take a scenic drive to the historic town of Alghero on the north-west of the island (the drive will take around an hour and 45 minutes). The medieval town is lined with sea walls, and is home to a maze of cobbled streets and attractive piazzas. Stop off for a bite to eat in one of the quaint cafés, then explore the picturesque marina before heading back to Olbia.
Palau: The beautiful beach resort of Palau is just 30km from Olbia, and is very much one of Sardinia’s hidden gems. A small town with a port, Palau has a good selection of shops and restaurants for you to explore. Before heading back to Olbia, drive a further 3km north to Fortezza di Monte Altura — a 19th-century bastion perched on a hill overlooking the town.
