The Norfolk Coast, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, boasts windswept beaches, quaint fishing villages and an array of wildlife. In fact, the coast is one of the most important spots for seals and migrating birds in the country. Take a walk along the Norfolk Costal Path and enjoy a post-walk meal at a traditional pub.
Anglesey Abbey: Anglesey Abbey and Gardens is a 25-minute drive from Cambridge. This National-Trust-owned Jacobean country mansion once belonged to Lord Fairhaven, who made his fortune in the States during the oil and railroad boom. Now, Anglesey Abbey boasts of a tapestry hall and a vaulted dining room. The beautiful grounds are also worth a visit, with formal and typical English-style landscaped gardens to explore. If you have time, you can also visit Lode Mill — just a short walk from the house.
Saffron Walden: Saffron Walden is a medieval market town just a 40-minute drive from Cambridge. This picturesque settlement is rich in heritage, with some stunning Medieval and Tudor architecture. A market has been held in this town since 1141, and now market days are Tuesdays and Saturdays. A visit to Saffron Walden is not complete without having a drink at the Old Sun Inn, rumoured to have been Oliver Cromwell’s HQ. Just remember not to drink and drive.
