Fort Bravo: Most people think that Spaghetti Westerns were filmed, well, in south-west USA; this was not always the case. Some of Hollywood’s most famous cowboy movies were filmed in Almeria’s Tabernas Desert. Fort Bravo is a series of film sets built originally for The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Now you can tour the sets, watch a cowboy shootout and horse-ride western style.
Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park: The Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park is Andalucía’s largest protected coastal area. Comprised of wetlands, hidden sandy coves and mountains made of volcanic rock, this wilderness is a haven for mountain bikers, hikers and horse riders. Around 30 kilometres from Almeria, this wonder of nature is not to be missed.
Granada: Granada is a lavish, Moorish city situated just under two hours north-west of Almeria. The drive itself is worth taking, as you will be treated to views of the spectacular Sierra Nevada mountain range. Once in Granada, don’t miss the breathtaking Alhambra Palace and the quaint streets of the city’s Albayzín district. Of course, your trip is not complete without visiting a tapas bar.
