Algar Waterfalls: Just over an hour’s drive from Alicante, the Algar Waterfalls are well worth a visit. Set in lush greenery, the dramatic waterfalls and pools are a great way to cool off from the Spanish heat. Take a walk along the bridges and walkways while admiring the natural beauty of the waterfalls. If you’re feeling brave, you can even dive off one of the boards into the turquoise waters.
Benidorm: Around 40 minutes from Alicante along the AP-7, the vibrant resort of Benidorm is a great day out. Purpose-built for tourists, Benidorm has plenty of family-friendly attractions to keep youngsters entertained — including Mundomar (a marine life park with dolphin and sea-lion shows), Aqualandia (a large water park with an abundance of slides) and Terra Mitica (a theme park with rides to suit all ages).
Villajoyosa: The colourful town of Villajoyosa is just 10km south of Benidorm, but is a far cry from the tourist-oriented resorts along the Costa Blanca. Here you will find narrow houses along the seafront — all painted in pretty pastel hues. In the old town, there is a busy market where you can pick up locally made items, as well as a chocolate museum where you can sample some of the delights on offer.
