Haus am Waldsee: Haus am Waldsee, a 35-minute drive from Berlin, is a leading venue for contemporary art. Launched as an exhibition space in 1946, Haus am Waldsee includes a sculpture park, temporary exhibitions and artist talks, as well as offering an architecture tour of the local lake houses. You can also take part in a yoga class amidst the art on Wednesday mornings.
Pfaueninsel: Pfaueninsel is like something out of a fairy tale. This German palace is located on an island that is also home to a number of peacocks — in fact, Pfaueninsel means ‘Peacock Island’. Built as a summer house by Friedrich Wilhelm II in the 1790s, the palace is now a popular tourist attraction and can only be accessed via a ferry.
Liepnitzsee: Just under an hour from Berlin is Liepnitzsee, a beautiful lake that is popular with Berliners. Dotted with the lake houses of the affluent, this body of water is a joy to swim in, cycle around and picnic by. One of the cleanest lakes in Germany, you can enjoy the lovely lido, rolling green lawns and sandy banks. The island that lies at the centre of the lake can be accessed via a ferry — the only engine-powered boat on the lake.
