Mount Olympus: Located in roughly the centre of the island, the Troodos Mountains are the largest mountain range in Cyprus. The highest peak, Mount Olympus, is less than a two-hour drive from Larnaca — and is a popular skiing destination during the winter months. In the summertime, this beautiful area is perfect for walking: with quiet mountain villages, white-washed medieval churches and isolated monasteries.
Aphrodite’s Rock: Around a 70-minute drive from Larnaca stands one of the most impressive natural sites of Cyprus associated with Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty. According to legend, this is the spot where Aphrodite rose from the waves and was escorted on a shell onto this incredible rock formation. This site is part of the island’s Aphrodite Cultural Route, and is situated near the popular resort of Paphos.
Tombs of the Kings: Cyprus has many ancient, archaeologically important sites, and the Tombs of the Kings have to be some of the most impressive. They can be reached in around an hour and 40 minutes by car from Larnaca, and are well worth making the effort to see. The site was the final resting place of about 100 Ptolemaic aristocrats who lived and died in Paphos in the 3rd century BC, but they owe their name to their size and splendour and not because royalty was buried here.
