Gold Coast: A surfer’s mecca, the Gold Coast is only an hour away from Brisbane. Boasting more than 50 kilometres of sandy beaches flanked by crystal-clear waters, the Gold Coast is the quintessential Australian beach region. Make the most of the coast by grabbing a crab meat sandwich from one of the many beachside eateries, get a surf lesson at Surfers Paradise or go diving at Wave Break. If you want to enjoy the city, head to Southport (where there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants).
Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary: Only 15 minutes from the centre of Brisbane is the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, the largest sanctuary of its kind in the world. Lone Pine does not only protect koalas — there are over 100 species of Australian animals in the park. You can have your photo taken with Australia’s cutest marsupial, hand-feed kangaroos and watch a birds of prey show. Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is a perfect family day out.
Sirromet Winery and Supa Golf Course: Located in Mount Cotton, a 30-minute drive from Brisbane, is the Sirromet Winery and Supa Golf Course. The award-winning winery offers tours and tastings, as well as fine dining at its restaurant. Just remember not to drink-drive! The Supa Golf Course is a modified form of golf that makes it easier for the whole family to play. Both the club and the putting hole are larger than in traditional golf — meaning that no matter how bad your swing is, you will have fun.
