Ingolstadt: Just over an hour’s drive from Munich is Ingolstadt, a beautiful city located on the banks of the River Danube. Boasting an attractive square, Ingolstadt is home to a wide range of Gothic buildings, including several churches.
Memmingen: About a 90-minute drive from Munich, Memmingen is a picturesque town with plenty of historic sites — including a large Baroque abbey and basilica, several churches and a museum dedicated to the town’s history. Memmingen has a charming, romantic feel to it — with café-lined squares, cobbled streets and a canal which runs through the heart of the town. It’s a great place to visit if you want to experience authentic Bavaria without the hustle and bustle of a big city.
Ulm: The picturesque city of Ulm (with its terracotta-roofed buildings) is just under two hours from Munich along the A8. There are plenty of fascinating sights to see, including the world’s most crooked house and the tallest cathedral steeple. For great views over Ulm’s old town, cross the Donau Bridge to the new side of the city, and enjoy a leisurely stroll along the river.
